About

I'm an amateur 3D artist living in Australia, and I've been concentrating on self-teaching myself since 2013. I'm constantly on the lookout for opportunities to further my knowledge and experience in the 3D industry, so drop me a line!

Until then, I'll keep working on developing my skills; check out the W.I.P. page on the side bar to see what I'm currently up to.

Thank you for visiting my work journal. While it was created mainly to document my work and progress, I'd very much like it to be a platform for lively discussion about anything 3D, too. Forums are probably better for that, but leave a comment anyway!

Areas of Interest

I'd love to try everything out, honestly! An otherworldly landscape for a movie, a crimson barrel with a proclivity for explosions for a game, little 3D printed tchotchkes to sit on a desk or board game, maybe eventually even a 3D printed Batman-themed prosthetic. Probably need an Engineering degree of some sort for that - something else for the backlog! I'd like nothing more than to use my powers for good. Evil would be acceptable, too.

A Pointless Back-story

I have Unreal Tournament's community to thank for getting me started down this path. I loved that there was a vast amount of maps and mods out there, made by people around the world for everyone to enjoy. I wanted to give back to the community, and it inspired me to try my hand at modding. I started out building maps, then on to writing scripts to modify gameplay, and finally discovered the joys of working in 3D. No sculpting at the time, just good old box modeling.

When I eventually decided that I wanted this for a career, I started self-teaching myself how to draw, too. I studied game animation and software architecture at university, but there wasn't anything that let me focus fully on 3D art. And so, this work journal was created.

I've taken solace in Gladwell's 10,000-Hour Rule - that being successful in any field is primarily a matter of practicing it for 10,000 hours. When I was younger, I had never exhibited even an inkling of artistic ability or interest. So when I started pursuing an artistic career, my lack of confidence was palpable. Back when I started out, I couldn't even draw like a monkey. Now, I am that monkey. One day, I'll be able to do art like people. And after that, it's on to to becoming a real artist!
